The Columbus apartment market has benefited from the housing downturn. The lack of new construction and the inability or hesitation of renters to purchase a home has caused the occupancy rate to rise is some areas of Columbus, Ohio.

"There were an awful lot of people who were buying homes in '02, '03, '04 who were coming directly out of those high-end apartments," Rob Vogt said. "That has been totally turned off. Those people are remaining in apartments."
